Traditional vs. Electric Toothbrushes
Who will win the battle?

A common question among patients tends to be, “Which is better to brush with... a traditional toothbrush, or one of those spinny ones”? Today, we’re about to settle your curiosity for once and for all!

The truth is, both the traditional toothbrush and the electric toothbrush are both able to provide people with an effective clean – provided they use their toothbrush properly! With that said, let our Toronto dentist walk you through the advantages and disadvantages of each toothbrush type. It may be able to help you sort out which one is better for you.

The Traditional Toothbrush

Your basic, everyday manual toothbrush definitely has some perks when compared to the modern powered toothbrush. They’re less expensive, come in a variety of different colours and styles, and best of all – don’t require any charging or batteries to operate. The traditional toothbrush is also the most convenient brush type to travel with. The only downside to this toothbrush is the fact that there is more labor involved to achieve a proper clean… but hey, many of us don’t mind the extra workout.

The Battery- Powered Toothbrush

The modern electric toothbrush allows you to simply drag the brush head from tooth to tooth, no repetitive back-and-forth motions required! So if you happen to be a lazy brusher, the electronic toothbrush can be your best friend. Another advantage is that it’s fun to use, especially for little ones… and there’s a great variety of brush head styles to choose from. The average powered brush also includes a built-in timer, so you can be sure you’ve brushed for as long as your dentist recommends!

It’s up to you...

Which type of toothbrush do you prefer to use? Whatever the case may be, the only thing that matters is that you’re using the right technique, and always brushing for a full two minutes. If you’re ever unsure about your brushing technique, we would be happy to demonstrate whenever you come in for a visit!
